Is life insurance more expensive because I'm a lineman?

Sometimes, but far less than most linemen expect. Many carriers rate the trade normally when climbing and voltage exposure are documented properly. Others add a flat extra. Because we're independent, we shop the carriers that treat the trade fairly instead of the one that happens to be on your break-room poster.

Doesn't my union or employer already cover me?

You likely have something, and it's worth having. It's also usually one to two times base pay, calculated without overtime or per diem, and it disappears when you change employers, get laid off between jobs, or retire. Most families need coverage that stays in force regardless of who signs the check.

Question 3

Will a policy pay out if I die on the job?

Yes. A properly underwritten individual life policy covers occupational death once it's in force, including electrical contact and falls. The exclusions to watch for are the first-two-year contestability window and, in some policies, aviation or illegal activity. We review those clauses with you line by line.

How much coverage do I actually need?

A common starting point is 10–12 times your annual income, plus the mortgage balance and anticipated education costs, minus existing coverage and savings. We build the number with you rather than handing you a rule of thumb.

What does the free coverage review cost me?

Nothing, and there's no obligation. We're paid by the carrier when someone chooses to place a policy through us. If your current coverage is already solid, we'll tell you that and you'll owe us nothing but a handshake.

Should I buy term or whole life?

For most working linemen, a large level-term policy covers the years your family is most exposed — mortgage, young kids, peak earning. Permanent coverage makes sense for lifelong needs, estate planning, or when you want cash value. Plenty of people carry both.

Question 7

What if I have health issues or use tobacco?

Accepted Answer

You still have options. Carriers vary widely on blood pressure, A1C, sleep apnea, and tobacco classification, and some offer no-exam underwriting up to certain amounts. Being upfront gets you accurate pricing instead of a declined application later.

Do you work with spouses and families too?

Always. We encourage spouses on every review, and we cover options for a stay-at-home spouse and child riders. The family is who uses the policy, so they should understand it.
